Navigating the Process

Clicking this button shows the position of the page currently displayed in the "main window" in treebrowser, expanding the Tree Browser if necessary. These buttons provide a way to navigate within the tree browser. The left and right arrows compress and expand an element in the tree, while the up and down arrows move up and down the tree at the same level. On most platforms, the keyboard arrow keys provide the same capabilities. The "Getting Started" button launches a separate window which presents a number of topics useful to the new user of the process. This window launches by default when the process is started, but automatic start-up can be disabled. This button provides a way to display the topics on demand. "Search" allows a keyword to be entered and searched for in the process, causing all pages which are relevant to the topic to be displayed in a Search Results window. The Search Utility works on keyword topics, rather than searching for strings in process content pages. The topic index displays a separate window containing an alphabetic listing of topics in the Process. Clicking on a hyperlink in the index will cause the related page to be displayed in the main window. Clicking this button will launch a seperate window containing the glossary which alphabetically lists the terms used in RUP, along with definitions and links to example pages. Clicking on this button will launch the Process in browser frames as shown in this diagram. If you are already navigating using frames, nothing will happen when you click on the button. Only a message will be presented. The "Tree Browser" presents a hierarchical view of the Process, organized by major topic. Clicking on an entry in the Tree Browser displays the related page in the "main window". This is the "main window", which displays content pages from the Process. Navigation within the main window can be accomplished by clicking on links within the displayed page, by clicking on entries in the Tree Browser, or by clicking links in the Index page or Search Results window.
