About your UNIX(ROCKS) account
All students and faculty in the School of Science and Computer Engineering (SCE) are given a UNIX(ROCKS) account. This account is part of the rocks.uhcl.edu domain.
How to find your UNIX username:
1. Go to Unix Account Lookup
2. username under the rocks accounts
You can access Unix workstations in two ways:
• On campus: Directly in the D158 lab workstations.
• Off campus (remote): Use SSH to connect to the ROCKS servers.
How to log in from outside UHCL
1. 📥 Download Putty
2. Use ssh to connect to ruby.rocks.uhcl.edu (VPN required if you’re outside campus).
3. Use your Unix username and password to connect to the system.
